Welcome to Step Up

Welcome to Step Up!

This Steps for Living module is designed to give you information about living with a bleeding disorder as you become independent. It is meant to help you make informed choices that will benefit you and those you love during your adulthood.

There is no playbook for life. We are all individuals making our own choices based on our own experiences. Sometimes, though, it’s helpful to know what other people who have had similar experiences have to say about life.

Several of them and other experts have put their knowledge into Step Up, the section of Steps for Living devoted to the issues facing individuals 16 to 25 years of age.

Here is some of what you will find in Step Up:

  • General information about bleeding disorders, including some commonly held misconceptions
  • Information about dating and sex, tattoos and piercings, and other daily living issues, including answers to some slightly embarrassing questions
  • What to keep in mind as you go from high school to college/technical school to working in the real world
  • Family issues – from getting along with or moving away from your family to eventually creating your own
  • Plus – some treatment stuff you may not have thought about as you get older

A common phrase you’ve probably heard before is “back to basics.” From coaches to big business and politicians, the phrase is overused to remind people that there is a baseline from which we all start, and from that base we continue our progress. No matter how old you are or how much knowledge you have, every so often it’s a good idea to head “back to basics” to be reminded of what you already know.

As you go through Step Up, be sure to head back to First Step and Next Step to keep your basic knowledge solid and up-to-date!
